Fire risk assessment for restaurants, cafés & pubs
Restaurants, cafés and pubs must have a current fire risk assessment under the Fire Safety Order 2005. Commercial kitchens, higher fire loads and busy or late-night occupancy mean hospitality premises usually need a more thorough assessment than a simple office.

Why hospitality is higher-risk
Cooking equipment, hot oils and grease build-up, gas supplies and extraction ducting all raise the fire risk, while crowds and alcohol can slow evacuation. These factors all feature in the assessment.
What is assessed
- ·Kitchen equipment, extraction and ductwork, and any suppression system
- ·Means of escape with the premises at full capacity
- ·Gas safety and electrical installations
- ·Sleeping risk where there is accommodation above (common in pubs)
- ·Staff training, signage and management arrangements
Typical cost
Most hospitality premises fall between roughly £300 and £600; larger venues or those with accommodation can be higher. See our pricing guide.
